I'm a designer/food systems nerd turned greengrocer from Edinburgh, Scotland. My Amuse newsletter is a small appetiser which may take the form of a short piece of writing, a photo or sketch.
I’ve written about food and tattoos for Vittles, and the labour of a month of urban foraging for Feminist Food Journal. Please subscribe to get full access to my Substack newsletter and website.

You won’t have to worry about missing anything, as every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
What should I expect from Amuse?
From January 2025, I will post a free monthly newsletter which explores Food and Design connections and guest posts which explores the themes of either ‘Playing with food’ or ‘Memorable Meals’.
Apart from this, as I continue to explore feelings and forms, the remainder of my personal and creative writing will usually be paywalled. Themed columns include:
Memorable Meals - A 100 word tale of a memorable eating experience
Recipes for Volunteering - Recipes that have shaped my voluntary work with food
Amuse me! - A delightfully vague wild card piece…either a story, poem, picture, sketch, or reading!
A Potluck Playlist - seasonal, curated and collaborative playlists with food at the heart
I usually send out my content via email on Tuesdays at 11am GMT.
Join the Substack (food) community
Subscribe to become part of a community of people who share your interests.
As the food community grows, I realise there are many wonderful writers to follow on Substack, and paying for paid subscription packages can quickly add up if you’re on a tight budget. If you are on a low income and wish to access my paywalled content but are unable to pay, please do say! I personally pledge to prioritise supporting other up and coming food-adjacent writers like myself, or those actively working to curate and showcase thoughtful, nuanced global food writing, such as Vittles, Feminist Food Journal & From the Desk of Alicia Kennedy.
To request a freebie subscription period, pitch a collaborative piece, or contribute to the Potluck Playlist, please email foodplayfood@gmail.com
